Ventilating the Safe Room!

Because of the tight, secure protection of the Safe Room, a ventilator is used to maintain fresh air when the door is sealed.  This unit is operated either by solar power, 110 VAC, 12VDC or even HAND pumped to provide filtered fresh air; A great, compact and simple package.

***It is important to use the proper unit on your building to achieve the best results.

When a building is designed to keep the elements out,

it also keeps out fresh air!

It has long been proven, in most cases, indoor pollution levels are higher than outdoor pollution.  Household chemicals, cooking, smoking, dust, odors, mold, open-flame heating, air-born particles and radon all contribute to indoor pollution. [NOTE: Radon should be kept out rather than removed with a ventilator]

Recovery Ventilators are a uniquely designed appliance that provide tempered,  fresh-air to tight efficient buildings.  A factor called “air exchanges” means these units are rated on the amount of air exchanged, or the replacement of indoor air with fresh air.  When properly sized and installed, a ventilator can replace virtually all the building’s polluted indoor air with tempered fresh air without feeling a draft!  OR You can simply open a window, but in extreme outside temperatures, it’s not a good idea;  since you’d have to open ALL the windows to refresh all the rooms. Brrrr!

Ventilators are connected into the forced-air system or designed as stand-alone systems. They come in various sizes with a variety of programming features.

Heat-Recovery Ventilator or HRV  uses the warmth from the stale indoor air to warm or “temper” the incoming fresh air. The two do not mix, but rather pass on either side of a special heat-exchanger.

At Hybrid Building Systems, we utilize a brand with extreme HEPA filtration that allows you to “purify” the fresh indoor air, removing virtually all pollen and other allergy irritants. We also use a hybrid unit that combines an HRV and a forced-air furnace into one healthy indoor choice.

Energy Recovery Ventilator or ERV  uses a similar process as the HRV but is designed to handle high humidity levels rather than extreme cold.
